With the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in k8 note, consumers will get latest features like multi-window, launch actions and improved bundled notifications. Hackers Can Figure Out Your Phone's Password by the Way You Tilt the Device



We often hear news about hackers bypassing phone locks, guessing passwords etc but can you imagine that hackers can now figure out your phone's password by the way you tilt the device with an accuracy of 70% in first attempt. Shocked right ?

According to a team of cyber researchers from the British Newcastle University, it's quite easy to steal a four-digit PIN by analyzing the way you tilt your phone and the way it moves as you type.

As they were testing things out to prove this theory, they were able to crack four-digit PINs on the first guess 70% of the time. Even better, or worse, depending how you look at it, 100% of all PINs were guessed by the fifth attempt.

"Most smart phones, tablets, and other wearables are now equipped with a multitude of sensors, from the well-known GPS, camera and microphone to instruments such as the gyroscope, proximity, NFC, and rotation sensors and accelerometer. But because mobile apps and websites don't need to ask permission to access most of them, malicious programs can covertly 'listen in' on your sensor data and use it to discover a wide range of sensitive information about you such as phone call timing, physical activities and even your touch actions, PINs and passwords," explains Dr. Maryam Mehrnezhad, the lead author of the paper.



More worryingly on some browsers it is found that if you open a page on your phone or tablet which hosts one of these malicious codes and then open, for example, your online banking account without closing the previous tab, then they can spy on every personal detail you enter.

The vulnerabilities have been shared with tech companies and browser makers. Apple and Firefox have already issued patches for this issue, while Google is looking for a fix.

In terms of connectivity, the Moto G 3rd-gen and Moto X Play offer 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and micro-USB. Google Play store paid Applications now from 10 (INR)




Apple leads, Google follows—much to the delight of Indian mobile application developers and users.

First, Apple made mobile applications available for as low as INR 10. Now, Google has done the same: Google Play apps are now available for INR 10 (earlier the minimum price was INR 50).

Why Google has slashed the minimum price?


Google actually didn’t have a choice. It could either join Apple or risk getting left behind in the Indian mobile application market.

A few weeks back, Apple introduced a multitier price system for its Indian Apps store. One of the highlight was the minimum price tag on the applications. Developers could now price their applications at INR 10.

Taking the cue from its Cupertino-based counterpart, Google also decided to reduce the minimum price. While earlier a user had to shell a minimum of INR 50 to enjoy a paid application in Google Play store, now he could access it for only INR 10.

The reason why Apple, and now Google, has lowered the price is actually pretty simple. India is a big country with a big population, and with a good part of the population following in the age bracket that uses the mobile applications most, the potential in the mobile app niche is stupendous. As most, if not all, Indian buyers are price conscious, both these giants are hoping to exponentially increase the number of downloads by lowering the minimum price (and this is by no means an unrealistic estimation).

What does the news means for developers and gamers?

Earlier developers listing applications in Google Play India had two options :

  • To provide their applications for free and charge through in-application purchases
  • To list a price of INR 50 or more on their applications, even after knowing that many users will not easily    part with that kind of money to buy their games

However, now developers can price their apps for INR 10, an amount which most gamers will not find high. So, basically the price slash will help developers to reach out to more people. It also makes testing new applications easier. First-time developers too will now find it easier to enter the mobile application market.
Gamers, on the other hand, can now enjoy their favorite games without worrying too much about the price factor. 

What else is Google doing to entice more users?

Google realizes Indian audience is unique. That’s why it has recently started selling Google Play Prepaid Vouchers (also known as Google Play Gift Cards).

Something like this won’t have much impact in most countries, at least not in the developed countries. However, in India, where a substantial number of people are still not comfortable in making electronic payments, this is a good move.

Google Play Prepaid Vouchers, available in different denominations, can be bought online as well as offline. With these vouchers, just like the price slash, Google plans to attract more customers to its fold.

The IMSI Catcher

Before I talk about the IMSI Catcher , I'll introduce you to some buzzwords.
IMSI , International Mobile Subscriber Identity. This is a GSM unique identifier that defines a subscriber in the wireless world, including the country and mobile network to which the subscriber belongs. 


ICCID , Integrated Circuit Card ID. This is the identifier of the actual SIM card itself - i.e. an identifier for the SIM chip. It is possible to change the information contained on a SIM (including the IMSI), but the identify of the SIM itself remains the same.

IMEI , International Mobile Equipment Identity and is a unique number given to every single mobile phone, typically found behind the battery.

Simply Put, IMSI catcher is a fake phone base station that tricks cell phones into routing their outbound calls through his device, allowing someone to intercept even encrypted calls in the clear.

The concept is Simple, your mobile phone automatically tries to route its communications through the strongest signal from nearby phone base towers, and the IMSI Catcher satisfies this need by emitting the strongest signal.

Running Android Apps On Linux To be a Reality Soon - Shashlik



Running Android Apps on Linux

We all know that Android is a Linux system. But Running Android Apps in real Linux OS like openSUSE, Kubuntu or Netrunner is still hasn't happened yet. Usually it involve either some proprietary, closed source solution, or a virtual machine like virtualbox, inside which you run Android. A project named Shashlik is aiming at making this possible.

Why Can't We Run Android Apps Directly on Linux ?

Android does use the Linux kernel but the layers above it are different enough from other Linux OS for the apps to not run directly. In theory it does seem a complete impossible task to run an android application on a Linux machine but a project has been started by the KDE development team to overcome this problem.

What is Shashlik and How Does it Help in Running an Android App in a Linux Machine

Shashlik is an "Android Simulated Environment" to serve as a launcher for running Android applications on a conventional GNU/Linux distribution. This is what the project is about. Google Launches Bug Bounty Program For Android




Google, the tech giant who always reward security researchers for finding flaws in their services announced the launch of a security rewards program for Android at Black Hat’s Mobile Security Summit in London. But as of now The Android program will only cover vulnerabilities that affect Nexus phone and tablets available for sale in the Google Play Store, though. Right now, that’s the Nexus 6 phone and Nexus 9 tablet.

Rewards start at $500 for reporting moderately severe vulnerabilities and go up to $8,000 for researchers who report a critical bug, provide a test case and submit a patch. On top of that, Google will offer up to an additional $30,000 for exploits that can compromise TrustZone or Verified Boot (and slightly smaller rewards up to $10,000 and $20,000 for attacks from installed apps and remote or proximal attacks).
