Design

Design-wise, the Motorola Moto X Play sports metallic accents, and comes with replaceable colour and flip rear panels. The phone measures 10.9mm around the waist, and weighs 169 grams. The Moto G 3rd-gen is a tad thick offering with an 11.6mm body, and weighs a bit lower at 155 grams. Overall, the Motorola Moto X Play looks better than the Moto G 3rd-gen.

Display and Software

The Moto G 3rd-gen offers a 5-inch HD IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 294ppi. The Moto X Play on the other hand sports a much bigger 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD display, resulting into a pixel density of 401ppi. The Moto X Play utilises a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU. Both smartphones offer 4GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be further increased via microSD cards.

Camera

Talking about the camera, the Motorola Moto G and Moto X Play, both offer 5-megapixel front-facing snappers. The Moto G 2015 offers a 13MP autofocus rear snapper with a dual-colour LED flash, while the Moto X Play offers a much better 21MP autofocus rear shooter with a dual-colour LED flash. Overall, the Moto X Play offer better camera features than the Moto G 2015.

Connectivity and Battery

In terms of connectivity, the Moto G 3rd-gen and Moto X Play offer 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and micro-USB. The former is a dual-SIM offering, while the latter offers only a single-SIM slot. The Moto X Play is fuelled by a 3,630mAh battery, while the Moto G 2015 is backed by a 2,470mAh battery.
